Just Rambling…

Ok this is monday morning and I am summarising my thoughts for week here. I have been heavily sad with some latest news.. A bay area gal (Sandra Cantu) gets assaulted by a WOMAN!!!!! and killed!!!!…
God save us, Dont know if we really are human. May be we are just animals , howelse you will explain this henious act..
There is one more sadistic story about Caylee Anthony of Florida.. Which is suspected to be murdered by her own MOM!!!!!!Ladies give me a break.. I have never known female in this Avatar. Am I primitive types or what.. These are unthinkable crimes in my wildest thinking.

Then there is this OSCAR winning movie, which is called Slumdog millionare. I saw this movie on DVD. And it has been on my mind since then. It is all real and I cannt deny it. But being an Indian what amazes me , how britishers still love to paint picture of ONLY POOR INDIA. Why they dont make movies on Indians who have managed to be top riches on forbes in their Own Briton land.. I think that also calls for some british attention. Though I am happy for the folks who could fetch Oscar for their work. but then racist flavor of oscar comes out wide open, when you wonder same musicians’s bestest works never got enlisted. And while he does mediocre song number for a british director for some controversial movie. He gets an oscar!!!!
Wow!! Who said there is no racism in oscars.. Please ask us Indians.. We will explain it happily.

When I first started blogging, I had this secret hope that my blog will be instant hit. Which obviously has fallen flat. But I think there is some strange power in vulnerability. It helps you thrive in catastrophic failures and yet emerge out as winner. So I guess it s kind of relieving to accept a hope gone bust in open than in secret.

I am sorry that I have been so passive on my dear blog. I read some of my previous posts. And I wondered, how it didnt generate the traffic it deserved. I guess part reason is my non-availability of time to blog , and other obvious could be, may be I write not that great. May be I need to recheck what interests people. But wasnt a blog supposed to be about what you love most. I love jotting down “random thoughts”. And how can random be classified or modified as per other’s tastes. So I think I can only work on the first one. And be more perseverent.

So here I am guilty of passing blog anniversary without even checkign it out myself. I commit to the blog that I will be more perseverant and more available. Also thinking of putting some of my art work on in coming months.

Happy belated (so much) Anniversary to my blog!!
I know there are not any regualr readers, who will wish me and my blog. But Let s stick it out. For this too shall pass.

Coming back to topic of this post, I wanted to thank all the one-off and random readers. I dont know what brought you to the site, but whatever it was. It did give me a slight tinge of energy to go on each time I saw the stats.. People do read !! Thats what comes to my mind when I check my blog stats!
Thanks folks, I will do my best in this inning to better my blog.

HeadSpace and TV

Well those of you who are new to this word.. will have to forgive me.. I have picked it up from some celeb talk.
Still need to verify its correctness. But I liked the word. So I am using it.
I am always the last person for getting glued to TV. I hope none of my family is reading it 😉

My parents would vouch that I can be glued to TV for days. And my spouse would vouch that I have complete disdain for TV. So you can see how much split personality I can be. Well Over the period of time, I have lost apetite for idiot entertainment. You give me some good mental food. I will take it from anywhere. Newspaper, Internet , TV , Gossip, email… just about anywhere… Yesterday I was torturing myself through toooo–elaborate weather news.. I wonder why Americans are so obsessed for weather. I mean so much weather news .. I have never got this who really uses this info. I mean california has stable weather, Why would someone be so paranoid about it. Then whenever you switch news channels, I bet within 5 minute you would encounter a wether word.
Another thing I have grown up to like is celebrity dishing.. Yeah Those stupid E! channel stories.. I like them ..Not for following them.. But to know how much world is unfair.. Some dont have food to eat ..and some have everything to throw away. It helps to put things in perspective. It tells which zone I dont want my life to go in.

Here are some nice quotes about TV.. some are really hilarious.

– All television is educational television. The question is: what is it teaching? ~Nicholas Johnson

– I wish there were a knob on the TV to turn up the intelligence. There’s a knob called “brightness,” but that doesn’t work. ~Author Unknown

– Television has proved that people will look at anything rather than each other. ~Ann Landers

– I find television to be very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go in the other room and read a book. ~Groucho Marx

– Television has changed a child from an irresistible force to an immovable object. ~Author Unknown

– If you came and you found a strange man… teaching your kids to punch each other, or trying to sell them all kinds of products, you’d kick him right out of the house, but here you are; you come in and the TV is on, and you don’t think twice about it. ~Jerome Singer

– Television is an invention that permits you to be entertained in your living room by people you wouldn’t have in your home. ~David Frost

– They say that ninety percent of TV is junk. But, ninety percent of everything is junk. ~Gene Roddenberry

– It’s the menace that everyone loves to hate but can’t seem to live without. ~Paddy Chayevsky

– Everything is for the eye these days – TV, Life, Look, the movies. Nothing is just for the mind. The next
generation will have eyeballs as big as cantaloupes and no brain at all. ~Fred Allen

– TV. If kids are entertained by two letters, imagine the fun they’ll have with twenty-six. Open your child’s imagination. Open a book. ~Author Unknown

– Television: chewing gum for the eyes. ~Frank Lloyd Wright

– Television has done much for psychiatry by spreading information about it, as well as contributing to the need for it. ~Alfred Hitchcock

– If it weren’t for the fact that the TV set and the refrigerator are so far apart, some of us wouldn’t get any exercise at all. ~Joey Adams

– The smallest bookstore still contains more ideas of worth than have been presented in the entire history of television. ~Andrew Ross

– Theatre is life. Cinema is art. Television is furniture. ~Author Unknown

– Do you realize if it weren’t for Edison we’d be watching TV by candlelight? ~Al Boliska

– The triumph of machine over people. ~Fred Allen, about television

Just a bit ….

Posted in Free thoughts by dearestfriend on August 7, 2007

I am going very lazy on this blog now. I hate to do that. I wish i get back to my more frequent rhythm. I loved the idea of blogging. So here is my bit to just keep going..
In last few weeks many ups and downs on outside fringe of life.

– I read about Praveen Babi, A yesteryear Indian actress and her solitary death. I felt bizarre for her end. Just couldn’t get the pieces of how such a wonderful actress fell apart into pieces. How her so called “much-married” boyfriends used her and left her to struggle alone. For my mind, i just dont believe that someone of her intelligence can suddenly become mentally ill. I see grave human manipulation to push someone to that limit. I started hating Mahesh Bhatt, a prominent Bollywood director. I have never liked him before. But didn’t find the need to hate also. With his tactics to use up his relation with Praveen, I could only pity and hate such man. How important it is to pick the right friends, is last thing I could close my mind with.

– This one is more painful true story. I met a colleague in office. Who showed me this . He knew this family and he has met this girl. This is one 7 year old innocent girl, whose brain decided to work against her. I just don’t understand where is destiny, karma and so called meaning of life here..

– Other thought hitting my mind very hard, my colleague who is diagnosed with Colon cancer. For him, life has been playing hide and seek for past 3 years. He first got the disease 3 years back. Then after some treatment, doctors claimed he s out of it. the disease struck again few months back. And now this time its fatal. Doctors told him , 6 more months to go. Now this person sits 3 offices away from me. I haven’t had chance to work with him. But everyday morning, when I see his name plate. My head aches. He has wound up his stuff and gone back to his parents. He came to visit us last week. He just smiled to me in my office. He said, we havent met, but my name is Scott. I for once felt just loss of words. I didn’t know what to tell him. We exchanged pleasantries and just general talks. I felt exhausted in those 5 minutes of talks. What hope you give to someone who knows, He is dying in 6 months. There was sense of “vacuum” in his eyes. I just felt it’s all very unfair.. To take someone’s life at age of 28..
Where is God here….

Overall exhausting few weeks.. And in the whole rut my dear blog is suffering. I just cannt come out of such grave situations. For some reason, my mind just stays there.

Feels nice to be here

I never thought I will keep my blog so free-flowing. I mean whatever literally comes to my mind, I just jibe here. Thats never the way I have my social interactions.
I read somewhere that having blog is a sure sign of being extrovert. I always knew I was one.
But I would add that, seeking the blog to read also speaks something.. It speaks that a person has undying quest to know more than his area of instant influence. Ofcourse it also says he has lil more free time to kill 😉 me included obviously.
I was wondering, why we stick to the kind of blogs we read. I am not very loyal blog reader. But some blog I do read despite of disagreeing. It gives me more headspace to be flexible with opposing point of views.

Few things I have got addicted about blogs…

– you just get some words for your imagination
– you can choose to crib, whine or just express, no one will really bug you.
– at times, you can be inactive for 20 days, and still see lot of readers going thru it. Thats very endearing 🙂
– It can connect to people just on mental level. I would say thats highest level of connection, one can ever have.
– You dont need a publisher to express your writing talent
– At times, you may encounter such a heat on blogging space, that you will remember last human fight you have seen
– you may find some real self-obsessed freaks in blogosphere
– Tech blogs never appeal to me. But whenever I read one, I make a point to mention my view. Thats the way I am 😉 Always poking my nose.
– I wish I had patience to upload pictures, its always nice to follow blog with more pics,.. i do ..
last but not the least… Having a blog will make you better person.. I can bet on it..

No time to do anything…

Posted in Free thoughts by dearestfriend on June 22, 2007

Well yeah I have been very busy for my blog. But Its always on my radar to write something..Lot is happening in my little world.. But what seized my mind was an office incident yesterday..
I am numb inside. Dont know what to do of this. One colleague of mine whose office was 4 offices away from me.. Died unfortuantely in car accident on saturday. Its sad and very sad occassion. But I couldn’t help and wonder.. Are n’t we living life as any other insect on this earth.. We just have more defined and sofisticated living conditions. But our life is as inpredicatble as theirs.
This person I saw on friday, with lots of choclate boxes on his office desk.. yesterday his family came to office.. And there was a small mass.Today his office has a blank name plate. and a blankness which will be filled in a month or two.. But dont you think, if he knew he will not live longer than 26 years of his age.. He would have never wasted his life doing things he never loved too much.. Coming to office, saving 401k, going to more economic grocery store, collecting coupens to save one or two dollars.. all that look such a waste of time.. While all he would have collected is lying here..I felt too many things though I never had chance to work with the guy. But personally I could not attend the mass becos I was running for my mundane medical visits.

The rights and the wrongs….

Posted in Chit-Chat,Free thoughts by dearestfriend on May 25, 2007

Well we all have dichotomies woven around our lives. What is right at one place becomes wrong
the moment tables are turned for us..
Some of it I could come up with..

Boss is always buggy and pushy.. Till we become one

Deadlines are always overstretched till we set them 😉

Love is always possibility when we receive, until its our kids who are seeking in their teenage world.

Marriage is all great stuff, till we are advocating it in front of others.

It’ s never the right age to add up more responsibilities..

Its ‘ always easy to blame it on weather and mood.

Logic is something which stops in our own sphere.

I can always find fault in others than me..

Personal blogging of insignificant and trivial stuff is irritating, until we do it 😉

Gossip is bad habit, until we indulge in.

I hate to judge people.. but don’t you think that gal in that cubicle acts..as if she ‘s the world 😉

Internet addiction is bad..But blogging is ok.. 🙂

Kids are sweet and innocent they should never be compared..But don’t u think that lady’s kid is really fat 🙂

Can you think some more.. I always wonder, we all have lil bit of lenient measures for ourselves..

sssshhhh.. Trees are talking

Posted in Free thoughts by dearestfriend on May 15, 2007

Yes.. Trees talk. That’s what my mom told me when i was a kid. I never believed it then.. But i do now.
We had huge number of plants in our house, and i think it helps kids to appreciate nature. No preaching but i think it does.

Last weekend I went on holiday to a forest. And to my human mind it was something mind boggling..
some random thoughts which went through my mind, While i wandered there.

Nature gives , gives and gives.. and never asks you back..And we human take , take and take.. And for making us aware to give back to nature we need these Organizations or authorities to tell us.

Trees are so forgiving compared to us. we say once you see the world, your perspective grows and you become more accommodating. Well Trees don’t even move and they never see anybody beyond 100 meters of their periphery.. Yet they forgive us for all the chopping, stealing we do to them. They serve, serve and serve.. and we get served, served and served. We never pay them anything..
There are trees which are giants by size..Sheer look of them can you feel like you saw a monster.. But you will never get scared with a tree..That’s the power of vegetarianism i guess 😉 Yes i saw giant Sequoias in the forest there. And I was wondering… It’s so giant yet so quiet and giving. We all know humans tend to get pompous and vain when we grow giant in any practical sense.. Size, popularity, power, wealth, knowledge anything..You give a lot of it to them, and they change…I would love a gene which guides behavior in trees. I guess If we all had that.. We would have never had world wars and civil wars..We are so immature and foolish and yet we call our self the smartest animal on face of planet.

Yes humans are animals, Just like anybody else.. Now this quote comes from my husband… he always says that.. Human think too high of themselves… But they are nothing but one species of animal.
Trees don’t gossip.. Yes I realize that while I wandered through forests. That’s why there is no noise in forests. You know why our societies are full of noise. Because we have gossip pushing us in all directions.. We have faster cars, while we yearn for some free time.. We have freeways, while we yearn for freedom in our lives. We have high flying careers, while all we need is some real roots in ground reality. We have millions in our banks, while we have zillions dying of hunger. We are living example of manmade dichotomy. We invent cell phone and later on realize it has enslaved us more. We invent digital electronics and then look for ways to escape in ‘non-digital’ holidays.

One more important thing we can learn from tree is ..Humility..More fruits it has, more lower it bends..While we all tend to grow aloof as we rise in power ladder in our corporate jungles.

Love, as you see it….

Posted in Free thoughts by dearestfriend on May 10, 2007

Well I think we all pass different phases in life where our beliefs are evolved. Sometime they change 180 degree of what they were some years back.
Love is most controversial of that list of beliefs. Religion, faith, and morality being other ones.
As a kid, we all start believing love is what mother gives us.. love is what a father gives us… Love is what we all deserve by just being human.. Then dark side of parental love starts pinching us.. A love which expects you to behave certain way.. A love where your choices are narrowed down by someone else.. A love where you are bargained into something.. And we start getting a feel as if they brought us up to follow their instructions..
Mind it we are too young at that age to realize good or bad intention love..We are just learning to categorize gestures into reasons.
Then comes school buddy love.. I mean you just love your buddies, coz they make you feel so well associated. Your fears , your anxieties , your problems.. Everything is same.. So you bond.. And you think probably this is love which you are bound to treasure.. A love in which a frend will do anything to secure your interests. Even showing the paper in exam.. Working out things for you.. Listening you empathetically, connecting with you.. Is what love looks like at that stage..
Then innocent High school love comes.. You think your fav sports icon or film icon or anyone you adore.. Is the one for you.. The girl next street, the boy next door.. All those innocent kiddy infatuations look like love to us..
Then we grow out to realize, we better find way to earn a livelihood. In office you join with lot of small small dreams.. Next year, big car, big home… trendy clothes, Girlfrend, Boyfrend.. all that constitutes exercising our choices means love to us.
Then marriage ahhh… very loaded love.. a love which expects, expects and expects.. and doesn’t give u anything back.. Yeah ..you know when they say .. you have adjusted in marriage.. Basically you have given up what expectations you had in beginning.. Thats why you adjusted so well.
Then love becomes your kids. Kids who play the role, what you played to your parents.. Basically it full circle phase of life. You think as much as you give in this..You will get .. But the big issue here.. Time keeps changing, expectations and duties also change with every decade.

Then the real love phase starts.. Yes I call it real love phase. Because you are a mellowed, wise, old person by now. You have seen world.. gone through its different phases of less-real love. Best love is in the form where you are with the person.. Because you dont see any other way to go about your life. When you dont like him/her for his/her looks, for their bank balance, for their professional success, for their personality.. All you like is.. what they make you feel when you are with them..

The most amazing thing of all the phases, is we grow out of its positive and negative connotations. We start cherishing it as is.. That s where the meaning of love lies..
If I were love I would define myself like this..

Dont bind me in the words you choose
For I am free spirit ,
I touch as i please
I come and go as a breeze..
In the phase I am gone
I haven’t left you.
I am just letting you be wise,
I wont go as long as you dont squeeze.

945 Indian kids find home in US

Posted in Free thoughts by dearestfriend on May 9, 2007

This has agitated enough out of me..

I mean I am not against foreigners adopting Indian Orphan kids.. But I am seriously against Indian government’ s desires to take this route to tackle with orphan kids.. I mean Please for heaven ‘s sake..Choose better words.. And choose better ways..
Why not try to induce some sense and wisdom into our local natives than trying to charm outsider adopts your excess population.
One place you are proud of DNA. Other place you are not even taking into account of this innocent kids’ choice..I mean at least some of them may prefer to have an Indian upbringing.. I would have got hurt.. if someone raised me Christian or Muslim or anything.. I was born as Hindu and I preferred it to be that way.. There s nothing wrong or right about this. But all I mean is .. some of the kids may grow up to realize they were better off grown up as Indians.. How can we take that choice away..
I would have adored if we see our government and social groups encouraging Singles or couples into adoption. I am sure we have enough Indians doing too well for themselves..
Other day I was seeing some program talking about Taxes Bollywood actors paid for last year.. Why donct we suggest those bollywood actors who pay 15 crores in annual tax to put that money into child welfare.. whats the point of putting into taxes if they never get converted into true welfare of nation… I mean there are plenty of ways to solve the trouble..But we choose to look to west to help us… Why.. why WHY…
Why on the earth we can’t own our nation’s kids and promise to give them better life.. This is just bizzare.. A politician talking about foreign adoption.. What it signals.. That she has nothing better to suggest .. Come on.. You as a lawmaker feel so wretched than what that hapless kid walking on aloof road is supposed to feel.
Okay enough of venting frustrations.. Let me throw some practical suggestions.. and some of my personal dreams about my India..

– There should be accountability on govt’s fund going into child welfare.. Make it visible in number of Housing provides, Graduates passing out, poor girls marriage paid off.
– We should tackle it on state level, district level… If only we could own our street and corner ..We never would have national problems..
– Encourage adoption in local natives.. Suggest people to have just one kid and adopt second kid.. make it some drive like polio immunization..
– Make it easy for wealthy folks to sponsor a kid, whose boarding and education can be paid off in more transparent ways.
– It will help to have some NGO more active and more vocal in this field.. I wish to be part of such NGO once I find I have done my material duties and have enough to help others and myself.
